The Votes are In!

After a couple weeks of looking at these adorable little fabric swatches pinned to our blinds, we have come to a decision! 

Thank you to everyone who told us which option they liked the best, having a second set of eyes  and a different opinion helps keep things fresh. 

Once again, here were the six fabrics we were considering:

OPTION NUMBER ONE!!!

Eric and I both agree that this pattern will bring the most color to our space. I love how bright and cheerful it is, and I feel it's something we will love it for a long time. 

It is a bit brighter than we originally thought, compared to the image we saw on the computer, but that is why we ordered a sample and hung it up to see how it would look in our light. I'm blaming the "florescent orange" look on me taking this photo at 8:40pm with absolutely NO natural light #iphonecamera. 

So now hopefully in the near future, our quite bland kitchen windows will go from this:

To something like this! 

Woo pattern and pizazz!!!! 

Now we  just need to order the fabric, and cross the how-in-the-heck-are-we-going-to-hang-these bridge when we get there. 

On a completely non-curtain related note, I want to share these ADORABLE pillows we snatched up at Ohio Thrift while in Columbus last weekend. 

How much fun are these?! There may have been some running involved after I spotted them. For $7 a pop, NO chance was I going to let these bad boys get away. 

I can just imagine them sitting on our porch swing this summer, or on our new outdoor chairs we got for the backyard. 

In furniture related news, Eric's recliner and my accent chair will arrive this weekend and hopefully be delivered Saturday! 

And lastly in YES I'm a complete nerd news , there are brand new episodes of Doctor Who on Hulu! Eeeeeekkkk!!!!!!

 Yup...pretty much captures that moment.

6 Shades of Shades

Have you ever had an idea, and then just can't stop thinking about it until you've completed the task? 

That is usually how I roll. One thought, and then I just HAVE to get it done! Normally this involves cleaning something random at 10pm  after I notice it when I'm getting ready for bed. 

My recent "I need to cross this off my list!" moment has been about installing roman shades in our kitchen. I love our new white cabinets, but with white trim and white blinds (that are pulled down 90% of the time) there is a LOT of white going on. 

Solution to this white-out? Beautiful shades to hang over our windows!

These are some of the inspiring photos I found poking around the inter-web, and the one on the far left is actually a fabric design I've been eyeing. 

For our kitchen, I think I want to create a fake version of a roman shade, one that simply hangs in front of our already existing blinds. The reason behind this is our windows are quite tall, and if we made the version that pulls up and down all the way with our blinds, that may be A) more fabric we'd like to buy, and B) too much pattern for one wall. 

So far, I've found 6 fabrics that I'm leaning towards. Most are from Fabric.com and are very reasonably priced. I've ordered swatches so we can see what they look like in person before placing a final order, but for now (through the power of Photoshop) we have a preview! 

These of course are just to give us a quick idea how the color/pattern would work. The end pattern will have a lot more repetition, but for now it's a cool little sneak peak! Right now I kind of have a couple I'm leaning towards more, but really I have no clue. Hopefully once the fabric samples come in, we can break down our choices easier and find one that we are head-over-heels for.

Getting Crafty - DIY Magnets

Ahoy! 

So last night I got my Martha Stewart on and made some magnets for our fridge. Since the holidays we've accumulated a TON of cards and pictures that I want to keep, and we were running out of things to hold them up! I made some magnets like this last year and it is SUUPPPER easy! 

All you need is:

Scrap fabric

 Craft magnets with an adhesive backing (I got mine from Walmart)

 Button Kits in various sizes (also from Walmart)

Needle nose pliers to rip the button loop off so you can use them as magnets (not pictured) 

You simply cut out a bit of fabric and lay your button on top as shown in the picture. Place that into the white tool they give you in the kit, and press the back of the button on using the blue tool. 

It's pretty self explanatory. 

Once  your buttons are covered and looking fabulous, use those mighty muscles of yours and rip off that loop so you have a flat surface to stick your magnet onto. This may involve some wiggling and squeezing, but don't give up! 

Huzzah! Aren't they cute :) 

The fabric remnants bins/sections at Hobby Lobby or Joann Fabrics are perfect for finding scraps of fabric at super cheap prices. 

 There they are doing their job and looking great! 

So I can scratch that off my To-Do List and get on with the next project! I am planning on turning this old window I got over the summer into a chalk board, we'll see how it goes.
