Old2New - Thrifted Sconce Shelves

Things that are currently making me happy:

1. This video of Stephen Colbert telling the story about how he met his wife. Trust me, it's the most ADORABLE THING POSSIBLE!!!!!

2. Devou Park in Covington, and the absolutely breathtaking view of the city you're treated to when visiting "The Lookout".
and lastly...
3. These sconce shelves I saw at the thrift store, left behind, IMMEDIATELY went back to rescue after a day of deliberation, and now am sharing with YOU!
They're heavy, kind of green, and just begging to be given new life.
Primer + paint = DONE!
I love the look of a traditionally classic piece, revamped in a sleek modern color.
I picked up these matching vases at At Home - The Home Decor Superstore, which if you've never been, you're totally missing out. It's as if Home Goods and Sam's Club hooked up, had a baby, and that baby is a gigantic warehouse stuffed full of anything you'd ever want for your space.
Of course I enlisted Eric's help when it actually came time to hang them.
To finish things off, I tossed a few sprigs of yellow flowers into each vase, and just like that we're done!
I love having a little sumtin' sumtin' flanking the window, and the pop of yellow against the wall is just perfect.

So there you have it!
Was this the most complicated project ever? No way. Does it fill me with joy? Absolutely!
With the addition of our new rug, and now these sconce shelves, bit by bit our living room is transforming into the bright and cheerful space I always dreamed of.

Focus on what makes you happy people!

No Vase? No Problem!

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!!!

About flipping time too, I was beginning to lose hope. To celebrate, I'm sharing some of my favorite ideas at STRONG IS OUR SEXY to boost those beautiful blossoms!

To me, nothing defeats any lingering “winter blahs”, like bringing fresh flowers into the house. If you’re looking for a quick way to rejuvenate your space, there isn't an easier solution. Just pick up a loose bouquet while you’re out grocery shopping, and you’re all set!

Last week I bought a bunch or two…or five, and came home with a giant grin on my face. I couldn't wait to get these beauties into water and turn my home into a springtime utopia. It wasn't until I had everything sprawled out on my kitchen table when I realized my error; I didn't have NEARLY enough vases for all of these flowers. Solution? Time for some creative thinking!
There are no set rules stating that you HAVE to keep your flowers in an actual vase, and after some searching I was able to find a lot of fun and interesting alternatives.
Visit STRONG IS OUR SEXY to see all of my ideas, and hopefully you’ll be inspired to find unique ways to display those glorious spring blossoms everywhere in your home!

Sprucing Up For Spring

Spring has sprung people!
Although these past few days have felt like we skipped straight to Summer, you won't hear this girl complain after that endless Winter we practically hibernated through. Last weekend was incredibly Spring-ish; with sunshine, wonderful temps, and although we had some storms Saturday, it was still gorgeous and felt like the perfect day for flower power!
I have a confession: I absolutely ADORE flowers and could walk around a garden center for hours. I think it's because they're so colorful, and I'm attracted to bright and shiny things. Which also explains why I have the tendency to gravitate towards flower pots as well. All of those stunning glazes and patterns, I just can't get enough! This probably branches from my obsession with vases and jars.....anyhow, I swung by Marshalls after work Friday and picked up three brand new flower pots and couldn't wait to fill them up!
Unfortunately my love of plants does not quite meet my knowledge on how to keep them alive, so we'll see how long these guys last. Until their demise though, I'm going to admire our hard work and the extra spunk they add to our front porch!
The two pots flanking our front door are resting on tomato plant stands. I found this idea on the blog 4Men1Lady, and instantly knew that would be the perfect solution to had some height and variety.
And we can't forget about our swing! My Sunday afternoon was spent rocking back and forth, Diet Coke in one had, and a book in the other.
This was after I called my mom and wished her a happy Mother's Day of course - Love you Mom!
So with a little help from Mother Nature, we went from blah and boring...
To fresh and fabulous!
Now instead of our house creepily whispering "Hey, I don't really have much to say...btw there are still paint chips on my door from last summer."

It now shouts "Come on in! Have some lemonade and freshly baked banana bread! I still have paint chips on my door but I'm beautiful so who cares!".

Much better :)
